105/365: a garden to inspire healthy meals

20110719-122421.jpg

This was my harvest from the other day.  Along with some fresh herbs including basil.

It inspired me to make pasta with fresh pomodoro sauce and caprese salad.  Prior to that, I was planning on eating leftovers…or something ridiculously unhealthy…

So i’m thankful for a garden that inspires me to eat healthier and yummier!

96/365: Veggie harvest!

A home vegetable garden is most definitely a simple beauty. This is my first harvest and I’m so excited!

80/365: trying new things

We finally harvested our sweet peas (like the broccoli, i kept looking at it going – “is it ready yet?” and before i knew it, it was WAY past ready!) – and they were great!

R FINALLY agreed to try one.  She has also finally started to eat cooked peas – aka microwaved frozen peas – so she had a start with the “green balls.”  But she kept refusing to try these.  Well, she finalyl did, and of course she loved them!

So today’s simple beauty is the act of trying something new and discovering you really like it!

63/365: San Marzanos

ok, horrible picture, but had to put it up (never had time to get back and take a better one!)

so, my simple beauty: san marzano tomatoes! YAY! so excited to see them start coming in.  I had NO idea that tomatoes come from the center of the flowers!  Good thing I didn’t prune any of the flowers like I do on my arugula =)

looking forward to turning these into a pomodoro sauce…yummy…

56/365: Fruits of my labor

Today I was SUPER excited to see these little peppers on my plant in my garden! Can’t believe they are already starting to grow – it is so awesome! Yes, I know, I sound like a ridiculous city girl who never did anything outside. Well, the first part is true, I’m a city girl. But the second part is not – I spent lots of time outside – just not farming! SO this is exciting!

So today i’m thankful for the chance to enjoy and discover the wonders of gardening and the hope to enjoy the fruits of my labor

46/365: A break

Today I am thankful for a break in the torrential downpour that we have been experiencing, giving me a chance to plant our warm weather bed.  Back to rain this afternoon, but not before the sun had a chance to peek out and say hello to my new garden babies!

Don’t have “post” pix yet since it has been raining, but here are a couple of them as they were waiting to go in their new home!
