223/365: Music on demand

I remember many days when I would sit by my stereo with my hand on the record button, waiting for my favorite songs to come on so I could record them, and hoping that the DJ wouldn’t ruin it by talking over the music. I think the earliest I remember doing this was 6th grade. So I guess when I was 11?
I used to LOVE the end of the year when the radio stations would compile the top 100 songs of the year, because that was just a goldmine. Those mix tapes kept me going for years!
Now, I can get almost any song when I want at the touch of a finger. When I first joined my online subscription service, the first thing I did was look for two Indian movie soundtracks that I love and was beyond ecstatic to find them there! It is so wonderful.
Now every time my daughter hears a song she likes, she says “add this to my playlist please!”  She can’t grasp when we hear something on the radio and I explain I can’t. Or I can’t reowar on demand. Or…”what do you mean you can’t find the song?”
I will say however, that one thing downside is that as with anything in life, the ease with which you can find almost any song has made us a little less appreciative of some songs. I have lists of old songs that I used to get so excited to hear on the radio because they were rarities, but I hardly ever listen to them. Yet I clearly remember jumping up and down when I heard some of those same songs on the radio before the on demand convenience was available.
Well, overall, I still love it. I can explore so much music I wouldn’t have bee willing to invest in otherwise, and then those that I really love, I can buy the vinyl version!

Our girls thoroughly enjoying their playlist choices:

222/365: Music that makes you stop…or start

sitting on the train, I was reading some work emails, listening to music on spotify and drinking my under-sweetened coffee (trying to wean myself from the sugar beast) when Counting Stars came on. Soon I found that I couldn’t really concentrate on reading because I my singing and head bopping was taking over.
I love that.
When music makes you stop what you are doing, and just sing! Or dance! Or both 😁
It’s the best.

221/365: Sunrises

Surprise surprise, as got closer to the delivery of my son in 2012, I never finished my year of appreciation. We have had some difficult situations in our family lately though, and they are truly teaching me to once again appreciate all the simple beauties in our lives. So as best as I can, I’ll start sharing them again!
This morning: Sunrises. I pretty much never see these…except when I’m on vacation without kids or in a room with a view (barely ever!). But this morning, I realized that during the summer/fall when I’m at the train station to go to work very early (a few dozen times a year) I get to see the sun rising over the tracks. Never appreciated that before!
